[Peter has been mulling things over the past few days, and has come to the conclusion that all the crap that happened with Philip Kite sucked a LOT and pushed him to do things that he wouldn't have usually done, like yell at his best friend, as well as at Gary.
Nottttt that he and Gary are BFFs or anything, but he does feel bad about being unnecessarily mean to the other boy and thinks an apology might be in order. Or something.
Which is why he's calling.]

[The thing about heated encounters with Gary, is that they affected him in one of two ways. Either he holds a grudge until he feels proper revenge was served, or he'll forget all about them. His encounter with Peter had been the second, seeing as how despite him pointing out that he got his ass kicked -- he was obviously horrible upset and offended by Gary's attitude. And that, made everything worth it.
Other people's misery was therapeutic like that.
So for the life of him, he can't figure out what the hell Peter wants when he receives the call. And if he seems annoyed, it's only because he had been busy once again sewing a whole in his shirt, due to Al's damn alchemy.]
[Hey man, don't diss the alchemy, it's pretty darn cool.
The rather biting tone, while not unexpected, is still something of a downer; if Peter had expected to get away with this call scotch-free, he was certainly rethinking that now.
But he'd already called and it would be beyond lame if he hung up, or worse, said something dumb and then hung up.
Just suck it up, Parker.]

[Gary is visibly taken aback by the apology. And in the second it takes him to register what's happening Gary uses all of his strength to hold back the laughter. He felt bad? He felt bad?
Managing a straight face still, Gary seizes this opportunity to make Peter feel worse and looks away from the camera. It was almost like an art, how he tried to look hurt without it being so blatantly obvious. Given how he presents himself, looking like a kicked puppy would be a dead give away. So instead he looks distant for the most part, letting his features slip up ever so slightly to portray that bit of hurt he wants to get across.
All the while on the inside, he's laughing.
I'd just never seen a friend -- [A frustrated sigh, but he makes sure to let that particular word slip out so it's heard nice and clearly, while seeming like it was an unintentional slip up in an upcoming apology.] You know what, whatever. Is that all you wanted to say?
[He's not even going to pretend to accept your apology, bro. Whether Peter hung up now or not, Gary would be satisfied.]
I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE also wow Gary is terrible and I love it.
[It's almost funny how easily Peter falls for Gary's tricks. It's not that he's particularly gullible, or even that he's naive, but he has always wanted to believe in the best in people, and Gary's certainly a far cry from guys like the Kingpin and Norman Osborn. A little leniency in these areas can't hurt, right?
There's clear guilt in his eyes in response to Gary's act, and he's at a loss for what to say. Gary seems to be taking it harder than he'd originally thought.]
I-- [Was that all he'd wanted to say?] Well, is there anything that would make you feel better? Like, I dunno, talking or something?
[The one thing Gary likes about people? Is how easy it is to exploit their good hearts.
But that's about it.
That guilt in Peter's eyes just makes Gary feel good -- like a wave of satisfaction from knowing that he did that. A part of him wants to say "yes, let's talk" so he can continue this charade, and laugh on the inside as Peter falls for everything. So he can laugh at his weakness, his guilt, all the while Peter doesn't have a clue. But, he better not push it.
He'll just pretend to put that barrier back up, the one that he never actually took down to begin with. "Going back to his old self" when he had never really acted like anyone else.]
[While Peter hadn't expected much of a positive reaction, it still hurt a little bit to be shot down so easily, his idea turned into a device for the stereotypically weaker gender.
Still, he manages a weak smile - even if he's pretty sure he's still a loser in Gary's eyes, he can try and act cool, right? - and gives Gary what he hopes is an understanding nod.]
If you say so. [He doesn't think so, of course, but he also knows when he's fighting a losing battle.] But you can call me, if you ever want to talk.
[Gary makes a sound similar to a huff, but it's genuine. That whole "if you need to talk I'm here" bullshit always made him want to roll his eyes, but he refrains from doing so.]
